A sweetener is any additive that enhances the perceived sweetness of foods or beverages. This includes real sugar (such as sucrose, dextrose, fructose), artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame, sucralose, and acesulfame) and alternative sweeteners (including stevia and monk fruit extract).
